他曾是唯一参加过长征的台湾籍共产党人。
他精通日语，曾翻译过一些马列著作。
他曾任延安抗日联盟主席、八路军野战政治部部长兼敌工部长等职。
1945年9月他被任命为中共台湾省工委书记，赴台领导迎接解放台湾的地下工作。
1950年被国民党逮捕入狱，但很快变节，致深潜国民党高层任国防部参谋次长的吴石将军等人被杀害，1800多人被捕入狱。
1956年任台湾当局“国防部情报局匪情研究室”，后升任该室少将副主任兼“司法行政部调查局副局长”。
1982年10月在台湾病死。
