别说是小学老师，初中老师和高中老师也有搞不清楚这个问题的。
这位台州的初中老师说的教材，就是我们人教社初中英语《Go for it》九年级教材的一页：
那么高中教师呢？编2012年《五三卷》的作者，厉害了吧？
看到piano，凌哥先扯开一个话题，说说钢琴（piano）吧。
I bought a pianoyesterday for my daughter. The pianois white. Before, she didn't have her own piano. She played on a pianoin my school.
I am not interested in the art of the piano. But my daughter insisted that I watch the DVD " The art of piano(1999)" directed by Donald Sturrock for a better understanding of piano music.
By the way, there's another DVD with the name: The Art of Violin.
I wanted to buy some CDs for her, so I searched Amazon.com and found a CD The Art of Pianoby David Hicken (from England and now in Hawaii)
and a book The Art of the Pianoby David Dubal (USA).
To my surprise, there is a festival called Art of the Piano (also the website https://artofthepiano.org/) hosted by University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. I hope my daughter will play the pianothere one day.

所以呢，有人戏称“中国英语教师是最厉害的语法学家”，把英语本族语人士打趴在地。
结果呢？！小学阶段考卷的语法题，差不多就是初中、高中的语法题。举个某地期末卷真卷的例子：
第6小题是语义题，学生没错误。第7、9小题是语法题，学生就错了。凌哥问一句，第9小题，小学阶段学过这样的Let us的用法吗？再看第8小题，嗯哼？
学生哭死，教师苦死。——凌哥，气死……
做个不是很恰当的比喻：凌哥将语法比作空气，是每个人都必须的、重要的东西，但是小孩子不需要知道空气中有氧气、氮气、二氧化碳。让孩子们沉浸在干净适宜的空气（ 正确、合适的语法环境）中，他们自然会呼吸并适应，而不是去考学生空气里面有哪些成份、应该如何呼吸。
可是很多老师，上课的时候没有能力提供有效的、沉浸式的环境，比如一堂课当中有大约一半的时间在用汉语授课，或者讲的英文很多学生听不懂，结果还要怪学生做不对语法题。
哎呀，凌哥又牢骚了一大串！收回来！请看图，凌哥特意找了三种中国乐器，并注明网址！

看到了吗？这些可是纯英语网站，作者也是外国人。
凌哥不知道那些人的脑袋里面怎么突然想到了“中国乐器”不需要the。但是，按照上面的piano和pipa的例子中，有的情况下（不与“演奏”或“演奏能力”关联），乐器名词（即便是西洋乐器piano）前面的确不需要the。为什么呢？下文有说明。

这4本工具书中，没有和中国乐器有关的内容啊。即便是 《朗文新编英语语法》中提到了爵士乐的内容，如jazz guitar，也是“ 常被省略”，而不是“必须被忽略”：
上面，凌哥使用了 【实证法】和 【文献法】，应该够清楚了。还需要凌哥说什么吗？
如果还要说，凌哥尝试用下面的方式来继续证明：
【推理法】
当我们遇到一个外来事物的时候，总是试图将其纳入到本族语的概念类别中，并用本族语的规则来套用。比如sofa（沙发），我们会将它归类到家具，并使用家具的量词“个、件、张”，而不会使用“座、株”；tank（坦克），我们会将其归类到地面交通工具，使用量词“辆、台”，而不会使用“幢、滩”。那么，在erhu进入英语之后，也是同样道理，本族语人士会使用英语的语法来对待erhu。
【反证法】
如果中国乐器名词（erhu）进入英语后，采用了汉语的语法结构（零冠词），并且形成了一定的规模，那么权威语法书中必定会有所描述的。但是事实上，凌哥查阅到的国外语法书、词典、网站中，都没有对中国乐器作单独的规定。
【旁证法】
如果中国的乐器名词进入英语，需要被特殊对待，那么其他国家和地区的乐器，很有可能也会有这样的待遇。事实如何呢？凌哥选取了非洲和亚洲的乐器，查了一下。
非洲的 Kalimba（一种拇指琴，卡林巴）：
南亚的乐器 Sarangi：
结论
1. 中国乐器的名词，在英语中，和其他乐器名词一样使用。
2. 在表示与演奏（能力）有关的时候，要加the。
3. 在指钢琴的具体物体的时候，就是一个具象名词，和任何具象名词一样使用。再如table，tiger。
4. 在表示一种艺术的时候，是抽象概念，通常不加冠词。再如oil painting。
5. 在标题中，作为一种行文格式，即便与play连用，也可以省略the。
6. piano-playing，作为动名词，也是抽象概念，一般也不需要the。再如 window-shopping。
最后是一条小建议：作为英语老师，遇到不确定的语法内容的时候，最好不要到中国人写的文字中去找证据。
有个成语叫“缘木求鱼”，还有个成语叫“以讹传讹”， 很多时候就是这样。有些不权威的书，只是抄来抄去相互抄，而不求实证。
明明可以搜索到国外网站上本族语人士写的真实使用的内容，为什么要到非本族语人士那里找杜撰的答案呢？
