《Summertime Sadness》创作于2011年夏季，词曲由和瑞克·诺威尔斯编写[1]
，专辑版音乐由Emile Haynie、瑞克·诺威尔斯制作，而电台版音乐则另由瑞克·诺威尔斯和Devrim Karaoglu制作。
在此之前，当瑞克·诺威尔斯遇到拉娜后，他便对拉娜说自己在YouTube听过她的音乐后，便想要为她写一些歌，并询问她想要什么样的歌曲。当他们在写歌的时候，瑞克·诺威尔斯便发现了拉娜的才华[6]

歌曲《Summertime Sadness》中，与和的搭配，很容易便让听众联想到美国六七十年代的和，而拉娜·德雷用其独特的音色把《》诠释的很到位，迷人而富有情感的低音，抑或是富有磁性的高音，不觉得冲突，反而。这是一个人的Summer，一个人的歌[9]

Summertime Sadness歌曲MV
《Summertime Sadness》的MV拍摄于2012年4月和5月期间，由凯尔·纽曼和Spencer Susser执导[10]
，讲述了两个女同性恋人的爱情悲剧[11]
。MV开头，拉娜用画外音告诉另一个女人：“记住，我永远爱你，再见（Remember，i'll always love you，bye）”。而后，一个女人（拉娜·德雷扮演）站在树崖边（镜头转显下面是一片由瀑布形成的水渊），背对着镜头慢慢平展双臂，向前倒了下去，结束了自己的生命。
而下一个镜头出现的另一个女人（导演凯尔·纽曼的妻子洁米·金扮演[12]
）在开车时，感觉并看到那个女人的灵魂在她身旁之后，也随即伤心的跳桥自杀了。二人先后都下了阴间，都被迷幻似雾的阴气包裹着，并时不时的意味深长的看着镜头。MV还穿插了两人生前在一起生活的快乐时光，拉娜面对、斜对、背对着镜头平展双臂的动作（MV还特意录下了耶稣基督上展双臂的雕像，用来对比拉娜的动作），以及她在人间和阴间之中歌唱的镜头。到了结尾，MV开始显示拉娜所扮演的女人和她那若影若现的“鬼魂”正朝着镜头走来。
