看过黑泽明的《生之欲》，你会觉得人生最可怕的是没有存在感，而看过《鸟人》之后，你才知道人生最可怕的是在获得无尚的存在感后，终究回归平庸的可有可无。在还没有咽下人生最后一口气之前，你将终日在过去的辉煌和现实的冷酷中，反复挣扎，自我折磨，这就是鸟人的真实写照。
鸟人是不幸的，人到中年，事业滑坡，人生的巨大落差已经让他品尝够了失意，却连一个栖息的家都没有，面对离他而去的妻子和始终游走于社会边缘的女儿，他感到有心无力，只能任由放逐，一如他无法挽回的演绎事业。鸟人又是骄傲的，他不会在犄角旮旯里舔砥伤口，更不会在人前示弱哭泣，他选择战斗，选择抗争，赌上自己所有的家当，投入一部全新的舞台剧，打算放手一搏。
